Whale Watching & Photography 2019
Living and working in Coolangatta, one of the worlds best spots for watching the yearly migration North & South of whales!! You know that having the right equipment to Watch & Photograph the Whales makes it a lot of fun and something special to remember.

Watching from shore:
This is the most common use, its free to do and the Gold Coast has many great elevated vantage points to observe the whales.
Generally most people cannot hold much over 10x magnification pair of binoculars for very long without shaking. They simply weigh too much.
As a good allrounder we suggest the Bushnell 10-22x50 (waterproof) or the Nikon Aculon 10-22x50. Both of these allow the user to zoom if needed or reduce the magnification so whales are easy to find (because you have a wider view at lower powers). They are easy to hold for extended periods.

Watching from above: Drones
There are certain members of the animal kingdom you need to keep your drone away from.
State-based environmental laws prohibit drones from flying within 300m of marine mammals, such as whales and dolphins. Fines for breaching these rules can range from $300 to $110,000.
Birds of prey, such as eagles, hawks and falcons don’t take kindly to a buzzing drone nearby.
So before you take off, it’s a good idea to check the area first and land if you see any flying talons nearby.
